About the Maine Marathon

The Gorham Savings Bank Maine Marathon is a Maine Track Club event. Founded in 1979, the nonprofit, all-volunteer Maine Track Club is Maine’s largest and most active running club. 2017 is the 26th running of the event—making this one of the longest running marathon events in New England.

Volunteers act as race directors as well as handle the logistics of race day, organizing the expo, helping to find sponsors and more.

The event is committed to giving back to the community through charitable giving. Since 1997, the Maine Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay and its participants have raised more than $4,000,000 for charity. The main beneficiary for 2017 is the Cromwell Center for Disabilities Awareness, whose mission is to promote safe, respectful and inclusive schools and communities.
