About the Maine Marathon

The Gorham Savings Bank Maine Marathon is a Maine Track Club event. Founded in 1979, the nonprofit, all-volunteer Maine Track Club is Maine’s largest and most active running club. The 2019 event will be the 28th edition — making this one of the longest running marathon events in New England.

Volunteers act as race directors as well as handle the logistics of race day, organizing the expo, helping to find sponsors and more.

The event is committed to giving back to the community through charitable giving. Since 1997, the Maine Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay and its participants have raised more than $4,000,000 for charity. The primary beneficiaries in 2018 were Greater Portland Health, the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Maine, and The Locker Project. See a complete list of our past charity beneficiaries. Three new beneficiaries will be selected in January 2019.
