About the Maine Marathon

The Gorham Savings Bank Maine Marathon is a Maine Track Club event. Founded in 1979, the nonprofit, all-volunteer Maine Track Club is Maine’s largest and most active running club. The 2024 event will be the 33rd edition – making this one of the longest running marathon events in New England.

Volunteers act as race directors as well as handle the logistics of race day, organizing the expo, helping to find sponsors and more.

The event is committed to giving back to the community through charitable giving. Since 1997, the Maine Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay and its participants have raised over $7,000,000 for charity. The primary race beneficiaries for 2024 are The Percival Baxter Foundation, Maine Paws for Veterans, Maine Senior Games, Riding to the Top, Saltwater Classroom, and Strong Girls United. You can read more about the 2024 beneficiaries or see a complete list of our past charity beneficiaries.
