Charitable Impact
The Gorham Savings Bank Maine Marathon has raised over $7 million for charity since 1997. Each year, the volunteer organizers of the Gorham Savings Bank Maine Marathon select a group of charitable organizations in our community to receive proceeds from the race. For the 2024 race, we’ll donate over $60,000 to these beneficiaries: The Percival Baxter Foundation, Maine Paws for Veterans, Maine Senior Games, Riding to the Top, Saltwater Classroom, and Strong Girls United. Find out more about the 2024 beneficiaries.
With the 2023 race raising over $233,000 in total donations, the charitable impact of the event has increased as the event has grown. Read our 2023 Charitable Giving Impact Report.

Run For A Cause
In addition to donating to charity, the Maine Marathon has set up “Run For A Cause” — a charity bib program that enables nonprofits to recruit runners to raise money for their organization. Since 2015, participants running on behalf of the Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer’s Research Fund at Brigham and Women’s Hospital have raised $1.9 million.
In addition to beneficiaries identified by the race organization, runners can set up their own fundraising programs. Raise money for your organization. When registering, Maine Marathon participants can also add a donation to their race fees. The amount raised by runner donations is distributed among all the beneficiaries.
We have a long history of financially supporting the community, donating more than $7,000,000 since 1997.
